Arrive in Alice Springs (Guest's own arrangement) and make your way to the hotel. Alice Springs is known as the capital of Australia's Red Center, and it is a great base for exploring the natural wonders of the Northern Territory's outback, including Uluru, Kings Canyon, the West MacDonnell Ranges and their iconic Larapinta Trail.
You are required to attend the pre-walk brief in the afternoon.
Trek the Larapinta Trail Section 1. Walking distance: walk to Wallaby Gap (14 km); Grade: 4 - moderate to difficult. Long distance with some steep ascents.
An early start to begin your deep wilderness immersion. Travel towards the majestic and serene West MacDonnell Ranges, which are rich in natural wonders and traditional culture.
The walk today is a 14km ‘leg stretch’ commencing from the outskirts of Alice Springs. Some beautiful views can be seen, particularly at Euro Ridge. The walk is taken casually, a fitting way to relax and immerse in the wonder of the region and to ponder the coming 4 days.
The Ground Support Vehicle will meet us at the picturesque Wallaby Gap and transfer all walkers to the remote camping location. Let the true outback experience begin as you rest in a region synonymous in the dreamtime (Alcheringa) of the Western Arrernte Aboriginal people.
Trek the Larapinta Trail Section 10. Walking distance: 11 km. Grade: 3 - moderate.
Traverse the low lying regions surrounding Ormiston Gorge gradually working your way upward into the back reaches of the Finke River, one of the world's oldest rivers. This area is steeped in traditional folklore with several important sites being viewed including ‘Yapulpa’, which is part of the Carpet Snake Dreaming legend as well as the Emu and Kangaroo Man Dreaming. This section has some steep ascents and is one of the shorter sections of the Larapinta Trail.
Tonight the campsite is shadowed by Mount Sonder (Rwetyepme, The Pregnant Lady) and the imagery of the Yeperenye Hills. Relax at the campsite on the banks of the mighty Finke River as the sun sets and the colours of the night desert erupt into million star accommodation.
Trek the Larapinta Trail Section 8. Walking distance: 13.4 km. Grade: 4 - moderate to difficult.
Head to the spectacular western half of the Larapinta Trail and onto a 13.4km section of the Larapinta Trail that is only suitable for well-prepared and experienced walkers with a good level of fitness. It offers exhilarating views of the high quartzite ridgelines that typify the West MacDonnell Ranges, including Haasts Bluff and Mt Zeil (the highest point in the Northern Territory).
Walking distance: Ormiston Pound Walk (9km, 3 - 4 Hours)
Regarded by many as the best side walk the Larapinta Trail, the Ormiston Pound Walk is full of wow factor, wildlife and flora and a great finale to your walk. A location inspirational to Albert Namatjira, sensational viewings of the Chewing’s Range and Mount Giles – the entry into the Gorge will leave you dumb founded.
Enjoy time at camp for your last evening under the stars of the Milky Way.
Walking distance: Mount Sonder 1380m (16 km return)
An early rise is an understatement as we challenge the 8km climb to the peak of Mount Sonder. The vision of sunrise and the 360° view will leave you speechless – a truly unforgettable achievement. After another healthy lunch, we will pack and break camp for regrettably the last time and return to normality (hot shower and life as you know it awaits). Tonight, we will reminisce the past 5 days and share some banter over a refreshing ale or cool drink at one of Alice’s classic outback restaurants (own expense).
After breakfast, it's time to say farewell to the Red Centre. Please check out hotel and settle any personal expense. You will reminisce the past 5 day trekking on the Larapinta Trail - one of the most spectacular multi-day hiking experiences in the world.

Trekking on winter days is often pleasant with mild daytime temperatures (15-25°C, or 60-80 F) and light winds. Please make sure that you prepare for the cold evenings on winter treks, there can be frosts most evenings from June - August. The shoulder seasons of April-May and September are mild with some warmer days. Night frosts are unlikely and daytimes are warm and occasional hot days may require an adjustment to the itinerary (ie: less walking, more swimming).Rain is not common in the desert but it does rain on occasion, please be prepared for wet and windy conditions on all trips.

We recommend insurance cover that covers any loss which may be suffered due to cancellation. We also strongly recommend comprehensive travel insurance against loss of baggage and medical expenses.
