Walking Distance: 14km; Walking Time: 5‐6 hours
Your guides will contact you the day prior to the departure date to confirm pick up times from your hotel but generally it is around 7-7:30am. Your walking commences from the Alice Springs Telegraph Station, which marks the beginning of the Larapinta Trail. The stone buildings here date back to 1872 and they housed the first Europeans to live in Central Australia. From here the trail takes you west through witchetty bush, mulga scrub, and bird‐filled shady woodlands. You climb high over exposed hills to the jagged outcrop of Euro Ridge, with expansive views over Alice Springs and the surrounding landscape, before descending to the deep narrow passage of Wallaby Gap. A short transfer to Nick’s Camp, an exclusive award‐winning camp nestled in the bush with stunning views across the Heavitree Range and Alice Valley. You will be greeted by your yoga instructor who will lead a yoga session before your dinner.
Walking Distance: 10-11km in total; Walking Time 3‐4 hours
Enjoy the morning bird chorus as you ease into an early morning meditation session. From Nick’s Camp you continue west through magnificent, shady Bloodwoods and tall Ironwoods, the dominant trees on this narrow alluvial flat. You may catch sight of Black‐footed Rock Wallaby as you approach one of the most important waterholes of the area, Simpsons Gap. A short transfer takes you to the stunning Standley Chasm. Here you enjoy some lunch and a short walk to the look out. Then a transfer takes you through to Sonder Camp at the base of majestic Mt Sonder.
After a relaxed self guided meditation session, you begin your walking for the day. You visit Ormiston Gorge, a region full of wonderful wildlife. The Pound offers an immense variety of extraordinary scenery and is the perfect walk to complete your journey. You explore the upper reaches of the Gorge where Rock Wallabies scamper about the imposing cliffs, and follow the track through scrub filled with native birds: Spinifex Pigeon, Budgerigar and Mistletoe Bird. Keep an eye out overhead for the majestic Wedge‐tailed Eagle, Australia’s largest raptor. After your walk you transfer to Alice Springs. Sitting back and watching the now familiar ancient desert landscape slide by the bus window gives most trekkers a sense of awe and satisfaction. Having experienced some of the unforgettable highlights of the Larapinta Trail, you return past the scenic West Macdonnell Ranges to Alice Springs. You will be dropped off at your Alice Springs accommodation at approximately 4‐6pm.

In the Red Centre, the four traditional seasons are more distinct and temperatures are extreme, plummeting below freezing on winter nights (June to August) and soaring to the high 40°C (105 F plus) on summer days (December to January). Trekking on winter days is often pleasant with mild daytime temperatures (15-25°C, or 60-80 F) and light winds. Please make sure that you prepare for the cold evenings on winter treks, there can be frosts most evenings from June - August. The shoulder seasons of April-May and September are mild with some warmer days. Night frosts are unlikely and daytimes are warm and occasional hot days may require an adjustment to the itinerary (ie: less walking, more swimming).Rain is not common in the desert but it does rain on occasion, please be prepared for wet and windy conditions on all trips.(Data sourced from Australian Government Bureau of Meteorology, Units = °C)

Helicopter evacuations are expensive and in most cases will be at a cost to the customer. For Australian residents, under the Australian Government Medicare Act, it is prohibited for any domestic travel insurance product to provide any financial reimbursement with regard to ambulance or air ambulance services. We therefore strongly advise our customers to take specific ambulance cover through their health insurance provider. Evacuation cost will not be covered by the Onlyluxe Travel and therefore it is also strongly recommended that our customers take out travel insurance to cover (amongst other things) the costs associated with evacuation.Travel InsuranceIn view of the heavy cancellation penalties applied to cancelled reservations in certain circumstances, we strongly recommends suitable travel insurance be purchased at the time the holding deposit is paid. We recommend insurance cover that covers any loss which may be suffered due to cancellation. We also strongly recommend comprehensive travel insurance against loss of baggage and medical expenses.
