Upon arrival in Darwin, enjoy free time in the city before setting out to discover the world’s oldest culture and landscapes on a 5-day, fully guided tour of Kakadu, Arnhem Land and the Cobourg Peninsula (small group of max. 6 people). Enjoy an iconic sunset dinner cruise of Darwin Harbour and a scenic cruise of Corrobboree Billabong, home to the world’s largest concentration of saltwater crocodiles. Visit remote Aboriginal communities and learn about their culture and history while admiring some of the country’s best rock art. Discover the Northern Territory’s largest marine park and the world’s first wetlands of international importance. Visit colonial ruins dating back to the 1800s. Onboard the Ghan, you’ll stay 3-nights’ in a private Gold Twin Cabin. The Gold Twin features upper and lower berths that convert to a three-seater lounge by day with a private ensuite. Your cabin is the perfect place to relax and recharge before heading for the lounge or dining carriage. Amenities include power outlets and in-cabin music channels and journey audio commentary.
Pre and post your tour of Kakadu, Arnhem Land and the Cobourg Peninsula, you’ll stay in a 4-star hotel on Darwin’s waterfront. During the tour, you’ll stay in a mix of bungalows and canvas safari tents in the heart of Kakadu National Park. As you settle into your private cabin and get acquainted with this legendary train, you’ll marvel at the landscape as it changes from the rolling pasture lands of South Australia to the rich ochre of the outback.
Upon arrival in Alice Springs, venture out to Kata Tjuta and Uluru, the beating red heart of Australia. With expert local guides, you’ll explore these otherworldly rock formations and learn about their cultural and spiritual significance to the local Aboriginal peoples. The sunrises and sunsets you’ll witness over this sacred and spiritual landscape are truly unforgettable.
On the way back to Alice Springs, stop in at Watarrka National Park for a guided climb to the rim of Kings Canyon. You’ll have the chance to visit the Garden of Eden, a beautiful rock hole surrounded by rare plants found nowhere else on Earth. If heights aren’t for you, there is an alternative (and easier) walk along Kings Creek and across the boulder-strewn canyon floor.
Your journey concludes in Alice Springs, where you’ll have plenty of time to explore the town and even embrace The Ghan’s colourful history with a camel ride through the desert.
