    The Top End of the Northern Territory is famous for its tropical weather, laidback lifestyle, rich Indigenous culture and, of course, its national parks. Litchfield and the World Heritage-listed Kakadu National Parks are undoubtedly the star attractions of this ancient and sacred place. One of the Northern Territory’s best kept secrets, Litchfield is home to stunning waterfalls that cascade into crystal clear pools, iconic magnetic termite mounds and clusters of weathered sandstone pillars at the Lost City. Kakadu, meanwhile, is Australia’s largest national park, renowned internationally for its incredible Aboriginal rock art, spectacular landscapes and abundant wildlife including some 280 species of birds and giant crocodiles.

    Arnhem Land is a different beast altogether. Located in the Top End’s far northeast corner, Arnhem Land is one of Australia’s last true wilderness areas, with dusty red rock formations and sprawling wetlands that have remained the same for thousands of years. Arnhem Land is home to the Aboriginal Yolngu people – you need special permits to travel into the Yolngu Homeland territory, where a treasure trove of bark paintings, memorial poles, wood carvings and Yidaki (Didgeridoos) awaits.
