With 7:30am pick-up included from your Adelaide CBD accommodation, journey north along Highway 1 to Port Augusta. As you drive, you’ll see the longest wooden jetty in the Southern Hemisphere at Port Germein. Keep going along the coastline of the St Vincent and Spencer Gulfs for magnificent views of the Flinders Ranges, the largest mountain range in South Australia.
From Port Augusta, travel south along Highway 1 to Cowell. You’ll visit Whyalla, a town developed to produce steel products from the nearby iron ore mine.
You’ll stay the night in deluxe accommodation at Arno Bay.
Start your day with a morning stroll along the Arno Bay Estuary Boardwalk. This 2.9km return walk showcases the diverse and pristine beauty of the estuary, winding through dense mangroves and mudflats to the beach.
Continue on to Port Lincoln, stopping at the most picturesque coastal towns along the way. Upon arrival in ‘The Seafood Capital of Australia’, your guide will show you the best views of Boston Bay, one of the world’s largest natural harbours. You’ll have the rest of the afternoon to explore the city and its award-winning restaurants.
You’ll stay the next two nights in deluxe accommodation at Port Lincoln.
A short drive from Port Lincoln takes you to Whalers Way, privately owned land on the tip of the Southern Eyre Peninsula. Spend a few hours exploring some of South Australia’s most spectacular coastal views: a wonderland of cliffs, blowholes, crevasses, caves and golden beaches!
Next, continue on to the Lincoln National Park, where you can spend the afternoon exploring granite headlands, sheltered bays and massive wind-sculpted sand dunes. Or, head out on to Boston Bay for a cruise of the local aquaculture farms. On the water, you’ll see fur seals and sealions and have a chance to taste the state’s freshest tuna sashimi!
Depart Port Lincoln to Coffin Bay, home of the famous Coffin Bay oyster – and much more! See the famous beaches – Farm Beach, Greenly Beach, Almonta Beach and Long Beach – and explore the renowned Coffin Bay National Park, known for its beautiful, remote coastal scenery. Expect windswept cliffs and massive dunes, pounding surf beaches and sheltered sandy bays!
You’ll stay the night in deluxe accommodation in Elliston.
Continue along Highway 1 to Streaky Bay, famous for its stunning coastal scenery, fantastic local seafood, and all the beach activities you could ask for.
First stop, Talia Beach and Caves. Follow the walkway and wooden steps down into “The Woolshed”, with its honeycombed ceiling, dark crevices and nearby blowholes. Not far away is “The Tub”, a large crater with a tunnel connection to the sea.
Next stop, Murphy’s Haystacks. Named for a Scottish agricultural expert, these wind-worn pink granite boulders are among the oldest in Australia. Gradual weathering has shaped the granite to reveal the weird and wonky pillars and boulders you see today. Take a walk through the ancient garden and marvel at the way the light shifts and changes depending on the angle of the sun.
Your day culminates with a unique opportunity to get up close to local wildlife. At Baird Bay, swim or take a boat cruise to mingle with unfed, untrained, totally wild seals. The call of the wild will literally echo around you as you are welcomed into the water world of pure magic by the very things that live in the sea. You will also have the opportunity to observe the seal colony at Point Labatt.
You’ll stay the night in deluxe accommodation in Streaky Bay/Baird Bay area.
Leave the coast for the outback and discover a place where history, conservation and Aboriginal culture come together at the Gawler Ranges National Park. Spend time exploring the park: the red earth, the blue skies and the famous Organ Pipes, a magnificent natural amphitheatre formed over 1500 million years ago as a result of volcanic eruptions. As you walk, keep an eye out for rare native wildlife including crimson mallee and the yellow-footed rock wallaby. You can also find Sturt Desert Peas here – South Australia’s floral emblem!
You’ll stay the night in deluxe accommodation in the Gawler Ranges/Wudinna.
Travel through the gently rolling and peaceful hills of the Gawler Ranges. Observe ancient domes of volcanic rock and marvel at the vivid colours that seem to change with the angle of the sun. Along the way, you’ll see shimmering salt lakes and densely vegetated sand hills that bloom with wildflowers after the rain. Make sure to keep your eyes peeled for more than 140 species of birds that call the area home.
You’ll stay the night in deluxe accommodation in Port Augusta.
Reflect on your incredible adventure with a visit to Port Augusta’s Wadlata Outback Centre. Wadlata’s ‘Tunnel of Time’ will transport you back to when dinosaurs ruled the land and introduce you to the people who first owned and settled the land and those who still live there today.
On the way back to Adelaide, you’ll stop in at the Clare Valley, one of South Australia’s premium wine regions, for a glass of their famous Riesling.
